EMPLOYMENT LAW

The last time I worked for someone, I was laid off. I had hurt my knee playing basketball, and underwent major reconstructive knee surgery. Even though my doctor recommended that I take a month off from work, I hustled back in just two weeks. My hustle was rewarded – with a pink slip!

Unexpectedly, I was forced to deal with a number of issues, the most urgent one being telling my wife. It quickly became overwhelming. How much severance could I get? Do I have to sign the paper they gave me? Can I negotiate with them? What do I do about health insurance? Did my employer violate any employment laws? How do I make sure I get all of my personal belongings? Which clients or customers can I contact, and which client or customer accounts could I take with me? The issues that arise are too numerous to list.

Employment law is a complex area of law that covers a wide array of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and procedures. It also covers many different situations and scenarios, from the interview and hiring process to the termination of employment and retirement, along with everything in between. I practice employment law because it is such an important and personal aspect to everyone's life.

We can all relate. We all work.
